Ever scored a deal on an item during Cyber Week, but never got around to using it because you just didn’t need it? This happens often as our current consumer culture often encourages waste. As a small business, we don’t want to be contributing to this culture, but many small businesses, including SCHMEAR, still rely on sales from this season to remain profitable. So... we have decided to do things a little bit differently this year.
What We’re Doing Differently this Cyber Week
This year we want to lead our Cyber Week with a healthy respect of our environmental impact. Unnecessary waste and carbon emissions get created through impulse buys, returns, and expedited shipping. We will be starting our Cyber Week sale early so that shoppers can shop slowly and pick the right products. We suggest planning ahead, consolidating your purchases into one order, and allowing time for the order to ship (sorry, no same day delivery here).
What’s the Deal?
All of our food and plant-based skincare products will be 15% off sitewide, no code is required. We will also be donating 5% of sales from every order directly to the Food Stash Foundation, a local charity that rescues surplus food from the waste stream, and supplies them to underprivileged families and meals programs.
Food Stash Foundation
Food Stash Foundation is on a mission to reduce the environmental impact of food waste, while closing the food insecurity gap. On average, the foundation rescues 60,000+ pounds of perishable food monthly from waste streams, and redistributes it to households and nonprofits across Vancouver.
Since the pandemic, the number of Canadians experiencing food insecurity rose from 10.5% to 14.6%. This is such a timely and important cause, and because we value the importance of nourishing our bodies (inside and out) with healthy foods, we’re beyond excited to be collaborating with this charity.
Food Stash Foundation is running a fundraising campaign in November, and from now until January 1, 2021 all donations will be doubled in a matching program. To learn more their work or how you can support, please visit: https://www.foodstash.ca
