During a year where everything is but normal, we all want to maintain our holiday traditions for a sense of familiarity. One of these traditions is gift giving to those we care about.
Even though the pandemic will affect the way we do our holiday shopping this year, we’ve put together a few tips for Vancouverites to make this a safe and stress free holiday.
Start Your Holiday Shopping Early
Many of our postal partners are anticipating shipping delays and an increase in order volume this year. So start your holiday shopping early to beat the crowd! This year we saw our first holiday order come through in September(😳), hurray for being early!
Starting in early November will make sure your order is delivered before the Cyber Monday rush. But this will also make sure your order is lovingly packed before things get a bit too crazy.
Check out LocalBoom for a selection of some of the best local brands online. They ship out of Vancouver, and offer same day shipping options to help reduce waiting time for your order to arrive!
Look for Local Curbside Pick-up or Local Delivery Options
This is the best of both worlds since you get a chance to shop from the comfort of your home, but also get a chance to get out of the house and connect with a local business from a safe distance.
The best part is that many small businesses are now offering Curbside Pick-up and Local Delivery options too, so you can do your holiday shopping while supporting local small business owners!
Check out Giving Gifts for their free local pick-up and local delivery options. They’re a Vancouver gift shop in Mount Pleasant neighborhood that showcases local artists, makers, and small businesses.
Address: 4570 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5V 3R5
We also offer Curbside Pick-up option out of East Vancouver, you can learn more about this and our other shipping options on the FAQ page.
Select Gift Wrapping Option
Many celebrations will be going virtual this year so that we can be safe and be kind to those we love. Sending a hand-wrapped gift directly to your friends and family will help cut down on shipping time, and also create a nice surprise when your loved one receives the package. Bonus points if you can find a business that will include a handwritten gift message!
Support Local Makers at Virtual Holiday Markets
Going to holiday markets is one of my favorite holiday traditions. Luckily for us, many of the market planners have gotten creative and moved their events online! It’s a great way to shop those unique pieces for that special someone, and you can still learn about each product by connecting with the maker through consultations or direct messages.
Here are a few which SCHMEAR will be attending, hope to see you there!
